EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE ASSESSMENT & COACHING
What is Emotional Intelligence?
Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to identify, understand and productively harness emotions, and takes a high level of skill. Skills that many leaders are not taught. The value of EI is in developing and experiencing quality interpersonal relationships, which is critically linked to leading others.
“Emotions are flowing throughout your organisation and impacting every thought, behaviour and decision. Your choice is not whether they exist or not; your choice is whether you will be smart about them.”
– David Caruso
EI was defined in 1990 by Jack Mayer and Peter Salovey as “the ability to monitor one’s own and others’ feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them, and to use this information to guide one’s thinking and action.”
The Importance of EI in Your Organisation
Emotional Intelligence (EI) is a set of essential skills, or abilities, that are measurable:
• Reading emotions
• Leveraging emotions
• Predicting emotions
• Effectively managing emotions
Such skills play a vital role in almost every organisational function, from leadership and team-building to negotiation and planning. These skills are also teachable, so building the EI abilities of your leaders is possible. It will also improve individual performance, leadership capabilities, collaboration and improved business outcomes.

Assessing Emotional Intelligence: MSCEIT

Developed by Jack Mayer, Peter Salovey, and David Caruso, the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT) is the original and only emotional intelligence (EI) ability-based measure. It assesses emotional ability in the same way an IQ test measures cognitive ability.
The MSCEIT test provides an accurate and objective assessment of EI, as it tests an individual’s genuine abilities rather than the view they have of their own skill.
Skills tested include the ability to:
- identify emotions expressed in a face
- create feelings that can help solve problems
- communicate a vision or lead people
- predict how someone will react emotionally
- enhance decision making by integrating thought and emotion
Such skills play a vital role in just about every organisational function, from leadership and team-building to negotiation and planning.
Aya Leadership offers the MSCEIT test coupled with Emotional Intelligence Coaching. It is for all leaders and organisations wanting to maximise their communication, influence and negotiation skills. It enhances the individual’s performance leading people, collaborating and delivering impactful business outcomes.
